Beautiful shot. I'd think that going through Denver would be a little out of the way to get from Cheyenne to Omaha. Maybe the BNSF doesn't have a line east out of Cheyenne. Or this was a temporary detour maybe.

BNSF's line thru Cheyenne is purely N/S. To go east from Cheyenne, one needs to head north to Gillette, WY (240 miles from Cheyenne), or south to Denver (90 miles) to head east. Not sure why a train the certainly was routed thru Gillette didn't climb Crawford Hill, and head east to Omaha from there. Love the composition on this one, John!!!
