I do not know where you guys got the idea of the red worms. They were white (now rusted colored) when new and the base color of the car was green when new.

According to the Penn Central Freight and Equipment book by Morning Sun, some gondolas from this car class did receive the Red & White worm logo as seen on page 81 of that book.
