Quick question - what's the third rail on the track on the left? Is that a guard rail to prevent building damage in the event of a derailment?

JDay, I believe your theory is correct. There were several tracks underneath the station and the buildings just to the north. It was a great area back then, and L&N was pretty easy on folks like me traipsing back and forth. Glad you like the shot.
