Thanks for including the engine numbers - very helpful!

Nice shot Chase! I wonder if any of those are the ones that are supposed to be coming out here to California.

Nice shot chase!
@bwyrick: I've heard that supposedly Amtrak California will receive 3 in the amcal paint for the equipment addition of ex-NJ transit cars.
|
Wow, great catch Chase!
|
I knew about that, as I've been following (or at least trying to) the project for a while, but I don't know what numbers were going to be sent this way.

Rebuilt? I was hoping they were going to scrap!Talk about throwing good money after bad.I retired on the 831,I cursed every mile I went, and cursed anyone who had anything to do with these miserable machines.

I thought they were being shopped for truck swaps as the P42s developed a truck frame cracking problem from improper maintenance procedures (too much torque), so they were dragging P40s to the shops so P42s laid up with cracked truck frames could get back out on the road after a truck swap.

Trains magazine states that these locomotives are going Beech Grove to be salvaged for usable parts for other operable P40DC's.
|
Which one is the fifth from last (Phase V)?
|
That is AMTK 839.
|
The comment about being canabalized for their trucks is correct. They are not being scrapped and may actually run again someday, although they would need to be rebuilt just as the 15 stimulus units were several years ago.

Trains magazines is wrong. These units will be rebuilt with P42DC specifications like they did with the first 15 units between 2010 and 2011.

No, they will all be repainted in Phase 5 paint.
