Great pic! The ol' Milwaukee Road emblem is loooong gone. Question, what is the multi-colored line placard on the side denote. I have always seen them on certain rolling stock, but never knew their purpose.

That is called an ACI label that was used to scan equipment as it rolled by. I think it was in use from around 1968 to mid seventies.

An odd style of truck the caboose rides on to but I bet it was probably a very good one due to some of trackage on the Ole Milwaukee. What a classic RR you were. Great photo Chris . Cabooses should be required on freight trains . I would vote for that law in a heartbeat as well as phone booths all over town.
