I'll bite, why did they put a "lift kit" on the little trackhoe?

The holes in the "muck bucket" on the 315-L excavator would indicate that sometimes this machine has to go wading in fairly deep waters. The L in the model designation stands for the longer than normal treads or tracks. I would think that this machine spends much of it's time removing rocks, brush and other materials from the up stream side of bridge piers. Like a Blue Heron with it's long legs, this machine is right at home in water that would drown out excavators with out a Lift Kit. Being able to gain access to the engine area of this machine while it is in the water would explain the taller than normal front front hand railing and the non-standard rear railing.

It is designed this way, so that it can fit inti gondolas(mostly drop mill) and also has a set of claws for picking up and setting of new ties. CP had a late model one stolen back in either 2008 or 2010, from the Crowsnest Pass. The thiefs drove it out of the gon over night, never to be seen again.
