Wasn't the SD28 the first locomotive to have the boxy low-nose cab that would become an EMD trademark for over 30 years? It was built in 1962, and the last EMD built w/ the original boxy cab was the SD70 built for Conrail in 1999. So much for style!

No, the SD28s were produced in July and September, 1965. ICG 9451 (in the pic) was ex-C&G 701, EMD serial 30705, built 9/65. By this time, the earliest GP35s (which shared the same basic carbody) had been on the road nearly two years; ACL 909, which I believe was the first "production" GP35 (not a demo) was EMD serial 28535, and was built 10/63.

9451 was also destroyed in 1989, and was retired by the IC/scrapped
