Funny, with the mention "High line" alongside this city I'll always remember the long-gone St.Louis-San Francisco Railway line referred to by the same phrase (the Frisco people spelled theirs "Highline") which ran from Springfield to Kansas City by way of Willard, Bolivar and Clinton, the far southern end now a great walking trail. Frisco also had their better Springfield to Kansas City main line by way of Greenfield and Fort Scott, so the southern Missouri "Highline's" days were likely always numbered. However, the latter line may be remembered for helping Harry Truman fire up his "whistle stop" tour that helped him win his second term (the one where he defeated Gov. Thomas Dewey).
