Nearly everything in NY is something, something; "kill". As in a body of water, a kill is a creek. The word comes from the Middle Dutch kille, meaning "riverbed" or "water channel. Nice operation you've captured, thanks for sharing.

Interesting you mention "kill" and New York in a railroad forum. I'm thinking of New York City's old "Fresh kills" landfill in Staten Island which at one point covered 2,200 acres and said by Rolling Stone magazine (not sure how much faith I'd put in their declaration) to be one of the world's top 12 environmental disasters. That facility, now slated to be reclaimed and become a park, still has a waste containerization facility, and was still being served by a special branch of the Staten Island Railway linking the facility to the CSX and NS.

This fantastic short-line runs right in my backyard. But alas i can barley ever photograph them because of their week time moves. Fantastic photo!
