I thought twice about asking this question, but here goes.... Why is it necessary for this gentleman to cross the tracks in this fashion??? I await someone's informed response. Thanks...

Chase, great shot. It shows not only the train but the human side of commuting and working in the District and living in the subrubs. You caputred the moment perfectly....

Let us hope he doesn't get hit by a movement on the other track!

I thought exactly the same thing Mr. Kennedy. To the other question: he is in a hurry and like a motorist, takes foolish chances.

Alas, a man picking up his wife who had arrived by MARC was killed by a freight coming the other way, May 2013.
|
Like others have said, the thing that bothers me about this man is the fact that he's not looking for another train coming down on the other track.

Tom, it's an individuals responsibility to exercise safe judgment. But my god, MARC is a commuter railroad in the United States of America, would it kill them to build a damn footbridge? Some of those stations are nothing more than simply a slab of concrete next to the ballast. Come on. Safety is a shared responsibility.

As I remember, there's actually a tunnel under the tracks, which is why there's no bridge.

As someone who's gone railfanning in Harpers Ferry in the evening, I can say plenty of people do this. I've seen 10 people do this after getting of their train.
