Those EMD SD75I engines are still one of my favourites. There is a certain balance in the cab/nose and the back-side of the unit. These days it is all function over form.

The newer design (as modeled by trailer 8936?) was brought about for several reasons. The large flared radiators are in response to tougher emissions laws, as cooler engines emit less Nitrogen Oxides. The narrow area behind the radiator is the dynamic brake housing, a wise location as those fans are DEAFENING (even on an isolated whisper cab) when placed directly behind the cab as on 5664. And finally the phase II cab is stronger than the previous one, providing a better chance of crew survival in a crash.
