I have noticed, on RP's site, engines with this identicle color scheme in various parts of the United States and Canada, are they leased equipment that is owned by one company and leased out to other companies?

The orange paint is the corporate scheme of Genesee & Wyoming, which is the parent company of various railroads around the United States, Canada, Australia and the Netherlands.
