Great shot. Haven't seen a train that long since AT called it quits.

I see the new signaling devices to replace the old.

Saw NRT going east under the New River Gorge Bridge from the camera they mounted on the bridge for Bridge Day. Pretty cool to see him go by 876 feet below.

Such a congested corridor....snaking train, rocks, signals (both new and old), old telephone poles and plenty of Fall foliage! They all work well together. Good job composing this shot!

Looks like CSX is in the process of replacing those historic signals.

Interesting that they're replacing one cantilever signal bridge with a newer style cantilever bridge, but the other cantilever is being replaced with a pair of signal poles. Are the signals in the background on a tight curve?

Its a shame steam won't pull this train I still don't get why CSX is so anti-steam

For Mark Pappalardo: Cantilever signals cost considerably more than single ground-mast signals, so I believe it's obvious here that CSX is trying to save some money by using ground-mast signals where they can and cantilever signals were space and visibility is limited. And Chase, I agree with all the positive comments above on your excellent capture! And one final thing; Like most of you, I hate to see old "classic" things pass away like these former C&O colorlight signals. However, as a signalling professional with 33+ years, I can assure you that CSX maintainers are NOT going to miss these old relics once the new signals are cut over into service! Changing bulbs (if these are not LEDs) and cleaning lenses will be so much SAFER and easier for my CSX "Brothers!"
