Interestingly, this locomotive is actually the #4 ("Chocorua") with the cab and tender of #8. That change was made when the "real" #8 was retired back in 2008, as the railroad prepared to wind down steam operations. The hulk of #8 is stored behind the shops at the base of the railway. Glad to see they did a little sprucing up on this lash-up before putting it on display. In the last couple of seasons they ran it (2008-2009), the paint was faded and peeling and some of the cab windows were broken. It was a sad end for a very historic locomotive that ran not only on Mt. Washington, but on the Green Mountain Cog up in Maine before that.

Thanks for the info! I did not know their was a cog up Cadillac Mtn.
