824 struck farm equipment on train #392 on April 24, 2014 in Savoy. The train was then assisted by CN8944 on the head end the rest of the way to Chicago. More detailed media coverage is out there through your preferred search engine.

I read a story that Japan doesn't have train-vehicle collisions, one example is that drivers are required by law to stop at crossing even when there's no trains (crossings in Japan are treated as 4 way stop intersections, all crossings have either gates at all four points, or gates that are long enough to block the whole street, too bad the US can't learn from Japan.
