These locomotives look as though they are unsure on which track gauge they belong. Somebody please explain.

These powerful (3.1MW) locomotives are metre Gauge. The same type is running on the RhB. They often transport normal gauge freight, mainly those Tank transporters. Those cars are transported on metre gauge bogies. But they are coupled with the normal gauge european couplers. Under each normal gauge wheel is a two wheel transport unit. The lower GF coupler is used with narrow gauge cars. Felix

The buffers and couplers of the Ge 4/4 locomotive allow a direct connection to a standard gauge freight car on a narrow gauge wagon carrier truck. Both locos operate on narrow gauge (1000 mm) only.
