I think IC referred to these units as SD40A. Also had 5,000 gallon fuel tank. A few of these may still be rolling today...

David, I think the "new" IC killed the traffic more than anything else. When they made the decision to concentrate on their core lines, Birmingham was designated as non-essential to the business plan. My last few trips to their side of East Thomas Yard always resulted in seeing a lot of activity

It is an SD40A and was specifically build with the larger fuel tank so they could run Chicago to New Orleans with out refueling.
