I love "old" stained glass windows and of course stations - this must have been a beautiful station in its day. What is it used for now?

This station is now part of a shopping mall (most of which is where the tracks used to be), but the main waiting room is just a large open space. Very clean and well maintained, though.

Had the occasion to spend several hours in this station years ago, waiting to connect from the RGZ to Amtrak's "Pioneer" to Seattle. IF I recall correctly there were a number of these beautiful RR-themed stained glass windows and some large murals on the walls.

The Southern Pacific did build & operate the Lucin cutoff across the Great Salt Lake to avoid going around it to the north past Promontory Summit. This saved S.P. enormous time, miles, & money. We can all feel better however, because in 1996, the Southern Pacific was merged into the Union Pacific. Union Pacific still uses the Lucin Cutoff to this day.
