What are the pin mounts for on either side of the nose door? Thanks for sharing this classic shot.

Mr. Ellis, Thank you for sharing your great photo. It is one of those that is hard to stop looking at. I never saw the Milwaukee Road, but this is a good substitute.

Lift points. Would allow the railroad to hook there, and a couple other places, then lift the engine up into the air.

Ted...you've captured the moment for me with this image of the west end of the old depot in Milwaukee. The Railway Express building has been sold and repainted behind the E-unit. The turntable pit has been filled in and turned into a parking lot. My Dad's 61 Comet sits to the left parked as he was working as a Carmen at the depot at this time. In one year this part of the Milwaukee Road will be closed for the new depot at Fowler St....and in a year and a half I'll be getting a paycheck from the Milwaukee starting an exciting RR career.....WOW..where HAS the time gone? Thanks for this wonderful Kodachrome into the past....Tom.

Those are lifting rings. Usually the B end has them too.

I believe those are lift points for railroads anticipating derailments.

The locomotive is going over a three way switch that is paved over in the street. The points are out of the picture to the left.
