I remember driving up the Wisconsin side of the Mississippi River 43 years ago and being frustrated that I hadn't seen a single Burlington Northern train. Then just up ahead I encountered a bunch of trucks labeled "Railroad Emergency Corporation, Mendota, Ill." I looked down the bluff and there was a twisted pile of freight cars.
