Really, Gr locos were made in East Germany.

This was part of a private photo charter, so they were very accomodating. I would guess that they are always okay with photographers though. I was able to walk around the machine shop and depot completely unsupervised the day before and nobody bothered me. And yes, the Gr class of locomotives were built in East Germany, but they are still very much considered "Soviet" locomotives as they were specifically built for Soviet Bloc countries. In the USSR they were one of the most common designs.
