Among all users, NYC took their Alco FA s seriously. They bought a sizeable fleet and kept them in first line service right up to the PC merger, even as numbers diminished due to trade ins on newer power. The above could be said to be a fully developed example of a NYC FA-2. It has the bold lettered, final "cigar band" paint scheme and all the exterior safety appliances, needed to live in the road switcher dominated world of the late 1960s.
