Any idea what the second unit is? Looks like a high nose SD, maybe anot SD40 Southern Ry style? Also looks like it has blacked out windows, so maybe a B unit now?

The second unit CP Rail System SD40-2 #5479 former Southern Railway #3248 purchased by CP in 6/1992; cab stripped of most of appurtenances and windows blanked over. The lead unit is actually an SD40.

2nd unit is an ex-NS high-hood straight SD40 that were picked up by CP and converted into de facto B-units. Who would have thought 20 years late we'd look back fondly on the SD40 era?

Thanks for the replies and explanation, that's what I was thinking but not sure. Thanks to the photographer as well for a nice shot. The SD days were much, much better than wide cab GEs. Not many locomotives today compare to the sound of a 16V645 EMD prime mover in Notch 8!
