I'm curious about that 600 volt cart. Am wondering if it might be some kind of starter cart which bypasses the locomotive's on-board batteries.

A useful point of comparison is photo ID 121263. That shows 5502 in the paint scheme that was used instead.

Jay, these were Santa Fe wreck rebuilds that were done without cabs, not factory units.
