According to [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rail_transport_in_Namibia]: "Currently the service between Aus and Lüderitz is decommissioned, and there is no regular passenger service between Seeheim and Aus."

Hi Phil, this is an amazing picture. Did you see any train (moving) during your trip in Namibia?

I don't think a wedge plow would work well there. Great photo.

Upon seeing the thumbnail of this image, I immediately remembered the desert train scenes from "Lawrence of Arabia".......

Wild shot from a location not oft, if ever, really, seen by most! Looking on Google Earth - it would appear, perhaps this is one leg of a wye?

Replying to Jean-Marc, there are daily mixed trains from Windhoek (the capiatal city) to Walvis Bay and Keetmanshoop, although both of these run at night. Another daily mixed train runs from Tsumeb to Ondongwa, in the daylight. We called in at the loco shed at Ojiwarongo and were told that around 5 freight trains per day run from there.

It's amazing how the sand is a living entity and moves "where it must". We don't typically think of sand dunes as something alive. They do support their own eco-system. plants & animals live off them.
