Throwing a train into emergency doesn't seem like a very wise thing to do. Proper procedure in train handling could have prevented this derailment, which could have put many more lives in jeopardy.

Criticizing train handling after a fatal accident that will haunt the crew the rest of their lives is a pretty cowardly thing to do. My father was a railroader for 38 years, and he is haunted to this day (20 years after retirement) by people that he has hit and killed with a train, both in cars and on foot. When someone walks or drives into the path of a train, the crew is going to instinctively big hole the brakes, and hope it provides enough time for the obstacle to get off the track.

I am surprised the critical comments made it past our trusted screener. Some things are better left unsaid. May the victim's family find comfort and peaces in the coming days along with the brave CSX train crew.
