If the fins do not mate well with the the new low slung "Mater" cab cars, I'd say it's time to scrap them and build a cab car that does. It's truly amazing to me that the desire and funding was there for the fins yet non-existent when it came to the new "Mater" cab cars. Thanks for sparing us all the view!

Peter - I believe you misspoke - the fins were added long ago and designed to aid (very nicely) the aesthetics of the train when mating to an EMD FP59 PHI as seen "here".
