These type presses are used to make parts that are complex in shape, such as curved pieces and those with many bends in them. You would place your flat sheet on a form block that is a template of the part you want to make. The press usually has a dense rubber or polyurethane block that comes down and presses the flat sheet around the form block. Then the piece is usually sent off for a heat treat to bring the material to the needed temper and for stress relief. The press can make aircraft parts or any other part that you want it to press out. They come in different sizes based on their press tonnage.
