What a catch! It makes for a wild "what if" and yet, with the econo-passenger cars trailing, a thank goodness not! Though, I'll bet the last years of the NYC were no where near as glamorous as the decade prior!

I would have thought this was a 1950s photo! What a beautiful sight.

This is an incredible image. I first thought it was from the 1950's when I first saw it.

Wow! Awesome shot Carl, I have not seen any photo's of this event before, did these two wear this scheme until retirement?

Thank you all. New York Central painted FL9 2013 was eventually acquired by the Danbury Railway Museum, located in Danbury, Ct. It is currently on display at the museum. Sister locomotive 2012 was retired by Metro-North and placed into storage at Harmon. Not sure what ever happened to this unit.

The ditch lights are a dead give away that it is modern. Still. Nice shot.

Carl I love this beauutiful shot. The FL9,s look great in the lightning stripe paint scheme, and the silver underbody is gorgeous! Thanks for posting this outstanding image, and best regards.
