It seems odd to me that the slug [307] still has the dynamic brakes, instead of the mother.

Looks like 307 is a RCL and 407 not having Dynamic Brakes, they may be set up as a switcher set.

I think you might have it backwards - looks to me like the 307 is the Slug Mother, and the 407 the Road Slug. The Road Slug probably does have dynamic brakes, with the dynamic brake fans relocated to the location of the (much shortened) grill where the Mother would have its radiator. No?
