Fascinating photo on many levels. Yes, number one is timing...do these trains normally pass each other on this line in this area? If so, were you here waiting for a daily meet? Look at all those bleached ties. Minimal maintenance due to lack of freight traffic no doubt, but with apparent arid conditions, seems to be holding up reasonably well. Would this line be another Tennessee Pass if it wasn't for Amtrak or would BNSF simply pull it up as another unnecessary subdivision? Lastly, this photo reminds me of the perfect and staged scenes we sometimes create with model railroads...almost had to do a double take when I first saw it. Nice capture.
