The CC6500's were a class of 75 six-axle 1500vdc locomotives, equipped with two three-axle "monomotor" bogies (each with a single large traction motor mounted on the truck frame). They were constructed between 1969 and 1975, chiefly for fast passenger service, and were equipped with two gear ratios permitting either of two speeds - 100kph/160kph, or 100kph/200kph. The 100kph ration was for freight service. They produced approximately 8000hp and weighed between 115t and 118t - compared with the 4400hp and 211t of an American ES44AC.. All were retired by 2007.
