It may be more reliable, but it won't be the same. That clicking is a sound that I will always associate with 30th Street.

Before the time of the Solari board, the information desk at 30th St. had a large green chalkboard with a grid superimposed, to be filled in with train names and times by the PRR information clerk in beautiful Palmer handwriting. The board was lowered to desk level for updating and then raised again so it could be seen by more patrons gathering around. When the new information was being applied, with what appeared to be chalk in a special stylus, it appeared faint and barely legible at first. Then gradually it became bolder and easier to read, just before the board was hoisted back up to the higher level for maximum visibility. Gracefully human (vs. click-clickety-clackety-clickety-flapflap) and still going on in 1970 when I rode the NEC every weekend.
