Yes, Greg, the rails on the ferries had to match up exactly with the rails on the dock. If you study the photo closely you will see two hinged pieces of metal with hooks at the end. When the apron and the ferry deck were at the same level these hooked items would be flipped over manually into sockets on the boat deck. You can see these sockets just inside each of the two outside rails. They would keep the rails aligned as the ferry deck would rise or lower, depending how much weight be changing on the ferry as cars were removed or loaded.
