I had the honor of riding the Thalys from Rotterdam Holland to Paris and back in 1999. Truly amazing ride. I was able to walk the aisles without holding onto anything, at speed. Felt like an airplane ride. There was a kid, from the U.S, that said "We're not going that fast", pointing to a yellow car that was moving almost as fast as we were. I laughed and told the kid that that was a Lamborghini.

You're right, speed is not felt when traveling in TGVs, I was lucky to be present in cab and in the train during speed tests at ~360 Kph (see RPN#369491) in june 2011 and the high speed was impressive but never felt as dangerous... The train was very stable even in the long curves.
