This museum may have a reason for only opening one day/year, but I would think it might be more conducive to donations and volunteers if open more. Looks very interesting.

The reason is that it's not a museum - it's a restoration facility. Opening to the public for 1 day a year requires an immense amount of preparation including insurance, renting amenities like bathrooms, and moving equipment for display. However, for anyone who would like to volunteer to help in rebuilding rail equipment, there are frequent work sessions! Come down and lend hand!
