Thanks for the history on this John. Growing up the the Bay Area, I remember when Charlie Finley brought the A's to Oakland.

Municipal Stadium lived on as home of the NFL Chiefs and the expansion Royals until the Truman Sports Complex was built in 1972. The Truman Sports Complex off I-70 consists of Arrowhead Stadium for the Chiefs and Kauffman Stadium for the Royals. Municipal Stadium was torn down in 1976

That signal bridge was at Benton Blvd., the bridge in the distance Prospect Ave. Mopac trains going west had to run east out of Union Station a few miles to the turn south and later west to Pueblo. And, adding to the earlier baseball/Municipal Stadium comments posted, besides Reggie Jackson, famous A's that would also go west with Charlie Finley included Sal Bando, Joe Rudi, Gene Tenace, and Catfish Hunter. Before the A's Jackie Robinson played there for the Monarchs as did Buck O'Neil. As noted, the Royals played there for 3 years and the Chiefs as well. Quite the KC sports landmark, only a plaque remains to mark the spot at the corner of Brooklyn Ave. and 22nd St.

Its a SHAME nobody cared enough to close that hatch cover on 19's nose. Typical of the times, though, I guess.
