What! Why are they being retired? I never got to ride on one. That's a shame. Where will they go?

Costs ! That's why. After planning a major refit of all 5 cars, one at a time, Amtrak realized that this project would have hit the balance sheet a bit too hard,specially since continued preventive maintenace afterwards would have been almost unsustainable. In as much as we're all sad to see them retired, Amtrak's business decision to nix the refit project and simply retire the fleet makes a lot of sense. We ought to be thankful Amtrak kept operating them this long.

Claude is correct, the bottom line is cost. How many times can you fix a 60 year old car. They also look like cars from a tourist railroad. They are not very; good looking interiors. I'm sure those of you who have been on them have many great memories that are worth keeping but not the cars.
