I'm always surprised that, given the amount of time they spent on the CNW, they didn't chop the high hoods down.

If my memory serves me right, although short hood was front, I believe these had dual controls to run either direction with the engineer facing forward.

Bill, I saw photos on eBay.com of CNW 6701 and 6730, and right here by Tom Farence ( railpictures.net/photo/751050/ ) of one unit, CNW 6703, with F at the long hood end. I have not found any with an F at the short hood end. Reynold Puyallup

I recall being in the cab of one of the NW Alcos and it was crowded due to dual controls. Doubt the CNW would run them long hood front except in emergency. Not sure if they kept the dual controls once they bought them.
