Whatever that gentleman on the left is doing, I can definitely assure folks that these guys weren't posing for a static shot. They were indeed turning the locomotive, as I have a series of frames, just seconds apart, to prove it. In this particular sequence, they were only rotating the locomotive from one track to an adjacent one. It takes a pretty good initial push to get the locomotive moving, and a lot less push once it is moving. Given the short rotation required, it is possible that the fellow on the far pole is simply providing a little resistance, to prevent an overshoot. I wish I could go back there and see it again to check my theory....but alas, I think I have a better chance of hitting the lottery. :o(
