Bruno - nice photo, and interesting angle of perspective. What I'd like to know: How do the funicular cars switch tracks without a switch and frog? I would think that with the flanged wheels (if they have flanges) would bump over those guide rails at the junction and derail the cars. I understand the cable concept and the guide rollers and pulleys for the cable, I'm just not grasping the concept of how the cars can transition through the junction without a switch and frog. ???? < scratching my head!

The wheels over the outer rail have two flanges while the inner wheels are flangeless.

The cars have double flanges on the outer wheels and no flanges on the inner wheels.

Still - seems like a huge gap for the inner wheel(s). If no flange - why have any gap at all?

Wild shot, btw!

5 years late, but the gaps in the inner rails are there to let the towing cables through.
