Goodness me, were you safe where you were? Are they dangerous?

Black bears attacking humans is super rare. They are usually more scared of you.

Nicely done, Tim!

I'm interested why the ballast between the bears legs looks extremely irregular compared to the rest of the ballast in the foreground? Me thinks someone played with photoshop and managed to fool everyone to get their photo on here...

Wow, thanks for the comment Alex! We just finished undercutting all of the switches and the automatic derails at the east end of the yard. It’s fresh ballast. This bear hangs out here everyday and you could get this same picture over and over again. Maybe just send me a private message next time before you try to bash me on here. Cheers!

Private message sent, Tim. Happy to eat me own words and reply in a new comment here I was 100% in the wrong if you can prove to me this was a real event.

This is fantastic, Tim! Capturing a black bear alone would be impressive, but as captured and composed, along with classic EMD power all in great light - just superb! PC in lieu of the strangely absent SC and POTW!

As promised - I wanted to publicly apologize here for my accusation against Mr. Stevens that he photoshopped the bear into this photo (see above comments if they're still here). He was kind enough to provide me with with some photos that showed bear stepping across the right-of-way in a number of other shots, to which I gladly am eating my own words. A fantastic catch here, sir!
