I had the honor be attend a presentation in 1983 at the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, Va where Link expounded on how he and his assistant managed to capture many of his steam photos in the 50's and 60's. It was sponsored by the Photographic Dept of the museum. However, most of the people attending were rail fans wanting to see and here the famed photographer. And it was during the second year of the 611's revival. His dry wit only added to an exceptional presentation. I can browse my copy of Steam, Steel, and Stars and still hear him explain how the photos were captured.
