Sisters to the Sulzer-powered 68000's, the four-motor six-axle 68500's were powered by a French-designed and -built SACM AGO V12, ostensibly producing 2700hp. They were also equipped with steam generators for passenger service. 68540 is preserved at the AJECTA museum in Longueville.
