They actually put one of these back in service? From the livery, I get the impression this isn't a museum restoration, but regular service. This seems too good to believe, though I suppose not much stranger than an Argentine DL500 showing up in the new light blue livery.

Looks safe to say they've gotten their money's worth out of that 1950s locomotive purchase.

Yes! It was repaired to run regular services, specially for the cement ones. On the future the company plans repair 2 or 3 locomotives of this type.

Sure! The best purchase from Uruguay!

I'm not so confident. Particularly if they don't end up reactivating more of these as I've discovered they intend(ed) to, I question whether it's worth the cost to repair an engine that old and then have to stock spare parts for an oddball in a fleet otherwise made of GEs, Alsthoms and CKDs.

And speaking of what they have to stock parts for, what engine does this have? I've seen these described more than once as 251-engined, and saw this one referred to as still having its original engine. That makes no sense, because the build dates I've seen are 1952-4, and that's still the 244-engine era.

Looking at what references I have on hand to see what engines are involved, page 791 of the 1982 Jane's All the World's Railways lists a series of GE C-C locos of 102 metric tonnes, which is roughly 112 US tons, max speed 95kph, 1o41mm wheel diameter, and built in 1952 as having engines "Alco 250 and 244". that 'and' is a point of interest. When a Jane's "All the world's ..." book says a thing, there is a tendency to default to assuming it to be accurate. It also lists an "Alco/GE 1500" C-C, max speed 100kph, 1016mm wheel diameter, with no date or builder data, performance data only, and same weight.

They bring an 244 engine from origin. In case of the 1530 it was replaced by a 250 engine like others 1500 series.
