More important than the pin lifting function, the HelperLink box also acts as an electronic air hose. Without it, trains would have to either stop and wait while the conductor/brakeman on the helper set closed angle cocks, or risk the helpers not stopping if the rest of the train goes into emergency. HelperLink talks to the EOT and makes sure that if the train "big holes," the helper power does too. Nice shot!
