I think 3027 was the first H24-66 to fail and sat for a year or more stored behind the Bayshore roundhouse. I believe at least one of the other FM's operated as a braking sled at West Colton with its superstructure still in place.

I would be interested to know the size of the cables connecting the locomotive and the slug, they must not be very flexible.

Note this is not a slug. It only provided pneumatic braking to help control speed. One can see an MU cable connecting it to the C-630. Perhaps this was for a rear headlight?
