So impressive in every way from the design of the steam engine, to Mr. Perry's photography to the scan of the image. Thank you for sharing another gem!

Yet another first for RailPictures! Mr. Perry's collection never ceases to amaze! The 49ers were quite attractive looking steam engines. Too bad they never became as memorable as other streamliners.

With age comes beauty, at least with most locomotives, but with this one, not so much.

Steampunk at its finest! Superb photo.

If this was not a publicity shot it’s amazing for another reason. All the passenger cars match. Check out the old photos. Railroads seemed to keep a reserve of ratty old baggage cars to add to every consist the day of the first regular operation. Amtrak does a pretty good job of maintaining the tradition. Pear-sides, straight sides, round sides. Please pick a profile and stick to it/

I'll second Joseph's comment above. Love, love, love this shot - I want to make it a favorite twice. Thanks for sharing this one! Now to try to talk myself out of an HO scale brass version, wish me luck!
