Posted by Mark G. Gayman on March 25, 2023  The curved handrails are to allow crew members on the ground to smoothly board the caboose on-the-fly. I've only seen it done once on the Illinois Central in Dubuque, Iowa, and it was as a train left the yard, not at track speed.
