I've seen a lot of strong opinions on the CSX "fade", but I must say that I personally think it's pretty cool. It's distinct from both the more common literalist heritage units (on NS, Amtrak, CN, CP, etc.) and the abstract/tribute approach taken by UP. Left to my own devices, do I generally prefer literalist heritage units? Yes, for sure. But I think this design actually does a better job than most of achieving the objective of every heritage unit - calling attention to the connection between past and present.
